About Us

 ☆About Us☆

Welcome! My name is Emma and I am the owner of The Veiled Stitchery where I specialise in selling exclusive crocheted apparel, accessories and décor.

 ☆A Bit About Me☆

As a life-long bookworm I graduated from Queen's University Belfast with an English Literature degree in 2023, hoping to enter the book publishing industry. As is often the case, things didn't quite go to plan, with physical and mental health issues preventing me from entering the traditional workforce. This was a huge blow to my confidence, but thankfully a friend suggested I pick up crochet as an outlet for the numerous frustrations that come with being chronically ill and house-bound. This suggestion was the catalyst for my growing love of crochet and the launching of The Veiled Stitchery, which I am really eager to grow into something I can be truly proud of.

 ☆My Crochet Journey☆

It took me a few months to really heed my friend's suggestion of picking up crochet, but I finally did in October 2024, when I began to learn the basics (with much trial and error!). I am primarily self-taught via online tutorials and I am excited to continue improving my skills. Fostering creativity through crochet has had such a positive impact on my mental health and raised my confidence, which was previously at an all-time-low, and I am excited to explore this creativity by designing my own patterns in the near future.

My first 'proper project' was The 6-Day Star Blanket by Betty McKnit, which can be found on https://bettymcknit.com/patterns/6daystarblanket/ (link opens in a new tab). I will admit that this took me 22 days - not 6 - but it was a fantastic experience and I greatly value the professional and clear teaching of Betty McKnit, without whom I don't think I would have learnt a number of skills quite as quickly and easily as I did.

☆My Goals For The Veiled Stitchery

I feel really creatively driven to design tapestries, which I then plan to sell both the physical versions of as well as downloadable PDF patterns for anyone who would love to create their own. I am eager to create a collection of gothic literary tapestries, but I have so many ideas!

I have began planning cardigan collections, which I hope to begin offering before the colder weather hits, and I am really excited to introduce themed collections (such as Pride flag themed cardigans).

☆Thank you so much for reading and I hope you find something you truly love here!
